Castle S04E11

Castle: Till Death Do Us Part

Castle versus the pick up artists [Castle Beckett and the Team 425x279] (IMAGE)

Love and marriage, eh? With Castle’s Kevin Ryan finally getting hitched, the theme of the day should be something along those lines. Instead, we encounter the less joyful side of a wedding day: the single person’s experience. While we didn’t necessarily see The Wedding Crashers, the victim being a certified (certifiable?) pick up artist was a cute nod to it.

I loved the scene where Ryan’s three friends were working up the courage to tell him about Jenny’s relationship to the victim. I loved how all of that food just happened to be there (And seriously … please tell me that they didn’t order that much for just the three of them); and how they used that food against him. That Ryan already knew, and questioned about whether or not she was in the book, was a classic Castle twist. Ryan and Jenny are the type of couple to tell each other everything – of course it came up.

Is it bad that I don’t even remember why Esposito and Lanie broke up in the first place? I remember the cuteness, and then the snippiness; and now the even footing that they’ve finally seem to have found. Of course, now its time for them to fall back into each other, right?

The :45 Minute Guess: Huh – I’m not sure what to think. My first inclination is that bringing someone like Jaime Ray Newman only to let her have two short scenes at the beginning of the hour seems like a big waste – plus being all absent primes her to be the quintessential Castle murderer. But the timeline of the poisoning and the victim’s apparent “mission” are parts of the case that don’t really lend themselves to being completely irrelevant to the outcome. However, my gut says it is Newman’s Holly Franklin, but I can’t really come up with the explanation.

The Answer: Well, if I’d waited one more commercial break, I would have known well enough to stay far away from that guess.

Considering how closely I pay attention to the guest casting on Castle, I feel pretty stupid for just catching on to this interesting bit of trivia this week. Juliana Dever, who plays Det. Kevin Ryan’s fiancé/wife Jenny, is actually married to Seamus Dever, the actor who plays Ryan.
